Plastic Surgery and Celebrity Influence

How often are we influenced by what we see and how we perceive ourselves in relationship to that? People are motivated to reinvent themselves in a number of ways. Trends in plastic surgery as highlighted by data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show almost a 100% increase surge in butt augmentation in the past year and a large increase in minimally invasive procedures and that includes male patients.

Stars like the Kardashian sisters, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez showing their trademark assets on social media and the like as well as the songs they sing it is no wonder that women are looking for a curvier backside. All of these trends, plastic surgeons point at celebrities as a possible driving factor.

Like most surgeries, butt augmentation is not without risks and implants have an even higher risk. The Brazilian Butt Lift is now the surgery of choice for the woman that want the curves they desire. It is taking fat from one area of the body and putting it into the “butt region” with nice results and minimal complications. However those woman that have exercised away all the fat from the stomach or thigh regions are not candidates for this procedure.

THE MALE FACTOR

Men using plastic surgery to look better and get healthier have shown a significant increase of almost 29% from 2010 to 2013 specifically in the procedure areas of Botox, liposuction and breast reduction or “Gynecomastia”. Are men vain? Subconsciously men want that Brat Pitt look and are willing to invest in getting that outcome. We have seen an increase in laser, Botox, a facial shaping, like fixing sagging along jowls and creating a nice straight angular jaw by injecting Radiesse.

Another notable change with both men and women, is the shift in popularity from surgical procedures to non-surgical procedures. “People don’t want their friends or maybe even their partner to know that they have had work done,” instead they want the progression of the change to happen over time and the cost factor is less than having a full face lift. These quickie procedures where you can have them done during your lunch hour may also be driven by shock factors of celebrity transformations and people look to celebrities for what they want to do as well as what they don’t.

Some wonder why young beautiful celebrities to begin with, go through these transformations? It is clear that most people want to look natural. They don’t want to look like a different person. It is also the expertise and knowledge of the plastic surgeon to advise the patient what is good and what is not that should be the biggest factor in helping the patient make that decision.

Choosing a board certified surgeon and feeling comfortable with him or her and being able to trust them should be the overriding factor in deciding what procedures are right with you.  In the end you have to feel comfortable with yourself and know all the facts involved rather than taking a celebrities point of view.
