Mini Facelift Tampa, FL

Mini facelift surgery is designed for clients desiring enhancement of early facial aging, who require a more rapid recovery as opposed to traditional facelift surgery.

This procedure is designed for improvement primarily of the midface and jowl when sagging of the neck is minimal. Our mini facelift is the plastic surgical answer to facial enhancement without the prolonged recuperation of traditional lifting procedures. A mini facelift is suitable for correcting the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Mild to moderate sagging jowls
  • Minimal sagging of the upper neck skin
  • Lack of jawline definition that occurs with age
  • Skin laxity and wrinkles on the middle and lower thirds of the face

At What Age Should I Consider a Mini Facelift?

As aging takes a toll on the face with each year that passes, it becomes obvious that over-the-counter wrinkles creams, and non-invasive aesthetic solutions may not be enough to see the type of improvement many patients are seeking.

Often, surgical intervention is required to provide a dramatic refreshment of the face. Many patients see the most benefit from facelift surgery around age 40 and beyond when the effects of aging skin have become more apparent. However, not everyone desires or needs a full facelift. For minor to moderate skin laxity on the midface and jawline, a mini facelift (also called a mini rhytidectomy) may be more suitable.

Mini facelift surgery helps patients stave off the effects of time that result from structural collagen and elastin loss in the skin. No matter your age, Landon Plastic Surgery offers a complete range of surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic services to enhance your looks. Dr. Landon creates customized treatment plans for each patient based on their particular cosmetic concerns and tolerance for downtime. Mini facelifts can be paired with dermal fillers, Botox, and eye lift or brow lift procedures if the patient wishes to address other areas during the surgery.

Natural-Looking Results

As a Tampa board-certified plastic surgeon with 20-plus years of experience in cosmetic reconstruction procedures for the face and body, Dr. Bruce Landon, MD is adept at performing full and mini facelifts that leave the patient looking natural. Mini facelift results are designed to yield a subtle, but noticeable, improvement.

With well-placed incisions that are neatly hidden near the ears, no one except the patient and surgeon will know that a touch-up has been done to correct early signs of lower face aging. An added benefit is that mini facelift scars are minimal since fewer incisions are needed to complete the procedure compared to traditional facelift surgery. The mini facelift recovery time tends to be quicker as well.

Mini Facelift Surgical Procedure

Our mini facelift procedure takes approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours, and it may be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures such as brow lift surgery or blepharoplasty in Tampa for total facial rejuvenation.

Skin incisions are modified by gender and hair type, but typically involve the natural folds in front of the ear, around the earlobe, and into the crease behind the ear. The skin of the face is lifted a few centimeters into the face to provide for a 2-layer lift, to limit bruising and swelling. Different directions of pull are provided to the lift, to improve the cheek, nasolabial folds, and similarly the jowl and neck. The benefit of the mini facelift over the suture suspension lift is a smoother contour, greater longevity, and more control over skin bunching and excess. Stitch material is removed in the visible areas between 5 and 7 days and non-visible areas between 10 and 14 days. The surgery results in a smoother and more youthful appearance of the midface as well as jawline contouring.

Mini Facelift Recovery Process

Some swelling and bruising are expected after surgery, and this will last approximately 10 to 14 days. Head elevation is encouraged with the use of a recliner or extra back support in bed, to keep elevated.

Minimal activity is encouraged with limited talking and animation of the face in the early postoperative period. Dressings are removed after 24 hours, and a simple chin strap is worn for an additional 2 weeks in the evening. Showering is acceptable the next day. Hair coloring should be postponed for 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. Return to work is approximately 1 to 2 weeks. Return to exercise is approximately 4 to 6 weeks, and smoking is discouraged in the pre and postoperative periods. Nicotine is proven to impede healing, which may increase the risk of postoperative complications.

How Long Does a Mini Facelift Last?

A mini facelift takes a more subtle approach to improve an aging face compared to full facelift surgery. While the results of a full facelift may last for as long as 10 years or more, the mini facelift results tend to last closer to 6 years. (Note that the patient’s age and skin quality play a role in how long the results will last, so this is something you may wish to discuss with your surgeon during the consultation.)

A mini facelift is ideal for patients that desire more longevity of results than non-invasive solutions such as dermal fillers can provide, as well as better efficacy than outpatient procedures such as laser skin tightening, which have limited uses. For patients seeking a mix of convenience due to a short recovery time, minimal discomfort, long-lasting correction, and affordability — paired with the instant and dramatic results of surgery — a mini facelift is an excellent option to consider.
