Landon Plastic Surgery is Tampa's plastic surgery destination for breast augmentations. Under the guidance of specialized breast surgeon, Dr. Bruce Landon, Landon Plastic Surgery provides its patients with the latest innovations in plastic surgery to help them reach their body goals — particularly if those goals include breast augmentation.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is designed to enhance breast size, when, for personal reasons, the size is felt to be too small, to enhance the size and shape after pregnancy, and to improve differences in breast size. Your consultation is designed to understand your reasons for desiring augmentation and to ensure your expectations are realistic and obtainable. Many types of implants are currently available and will be discussed during your consultation. The type of implant used for your augmentation is dependent upon your breast size and shape prior to surgery and your desired shape after surgery.
Saline vs. Silicone: There are advantages to both types of implants. Saline implants are filled after the shell has been inserted, so they can be placed through a smaller incision. In the (unlikely) case of an implant rupture or leak, the body will immediately and safely absorb the saltwater filling. Silicone implants come pre-filled by the manufacturer, so they require a larger incision for placement. They are also made of a cohesive gel-like material that largely retains its shape in the case of an implant leak or rupture (making it difficult to notice that a problem has occurred). However, many women prefer the natural look and feel that silicone implants provide.
Incision Pattern: Implants can be placed through an incision around the nipple, in the crease of the breast or through the armpit. Dr. Landon will suggest the incision pattern based on several factors, including the type of implant being used.
We currently use Mentor's full line of implants for superior quality and shape.

What Makes a Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?
Dr. Landon meets with every breast augmentation candidate to learn more about them and determine if the procedure is a good fit. Generally, good breast augmentation candidates are women who:
Incisions for implant placement vary widely and include through the nipple, under the breast, through the armpit and transumbilical. These access incisions will be discussed in length during your consultation. Implants in our Tampa cosmetic surgery practice are preferably placed under the muscle, and this provides for improved tissue coverage, improved longevity of the breast shape and a decreased incidence of breast hardness. Your surgery will be performed in our AAAASF (American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc.) nationally certified outpatient facility. Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. Routine breast augmentation is approximately 30-45 minutes in length.
All wound closure is provided with absorbable stitch material and waterproof dressings for patient comfort. Your arrival time will be provided the day before surgery by our facility and will include general dos and dont’s for make-up and clothing wear. All medications to be stopped, including herb and vitamin supplements, which will need to be halted, will be discussed at the time of your preoperative visit. Smoking significantly increases your risk of wound healing complications, and this will be discussed prior to surgery.
Postoperative support is provided by a soft front clasp comfortable bra. Prescriptions for medications required in the postoperative period will be provided prior to your surgery, to prevent any delay in availability after surgery. Instructions will be provided from our office surgery coordinator.
Rest for the first 24 hours is highly recommended with assistance to provide for the needs of other household members. The medications prescribed will help control your discomfort, and the type of medication you receive may vary, dependent upon your individual tolerance. Similar to breast lift surgery, instructions will be provided for return to work and return to exercise, usually at approximately 5 to 7 days and 6 weeks, respectively. Multiple follow up visits in our office will be arranged, and patients will be followed closely in the early postoperative period. Scars will be monitored, settling of the implants and patient comfort will be addressed with each visit. Postoperative photographs are usually obtained at the 2 to 3 month mark, when your implants settle into their final resting position. The risks of surgery will be outlined in detail, so a fully informed decision on your part can be made with regards to your candidacy for surgery.
