What You Should Know About PRP Anti-Aging Injections

PRP is not a dermal filler like Juvederm or a neurotoxin like Botox and Dysport. Instead, it is an all-natural injection that is derived from your own blood. Here’s what you need to know about PRP injections.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. The blood is filled with platelets, which are primarily responsible for clotting. Platelets also contain a lot of protein markers which can be used to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. There are three primary components that are responsible for flawless, clear skin: collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. The platelets in PRP stimulate healing so that these three elements are naturally produced by the body, improving the appearance, feel, and the health of your skin.

Getting the PRP Treatment

If you can handle getting your blood drawn, you will have no issues with PRP injections. Your drawn blood will be placed in a centrifuge to increase the number of platelets in the plasma. A numbing agent will be applied to your skin, and then the PRP will be injected into the target problem areas. There is no downtime or recovery, and the entire process takes only about 20 minutes to complete.

Results

You might not see results from PRP injections right away. PRP isn’t a magic injection that gives you immediate results. Instead, it starts working immediately to boost production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. You will begin to see results within the first week, with the end results sometimes taking up to three to five weeks. The results typically last about 18 months, although individual results will vary.
